Siesta!

There is an area of cooking in which i am horribly inexperienced and that is baking
when we were with my mother for xmas, she really wanted us to cut out cookies (with the xmas cutouts from my childhood) and then decorate them
i helped with the dough itself as she talked me through the process. this went pretty ok, although i was obviously iffy
but we also made a nice bread appetizer that was bread dough rolled around cheese & shrimp & rosemary.. it was shaped like a horseshoe and baked
i totally attacked that dough with the rolling pin after watching her methods, but i was wimpy. the dough spread out a bit on the floured board but when she did it with her efficient and speedy movements, she dominated the dough
me? the dough was definitely dominating.

the fog is so thick right now that i can't see some of the tall buildings a few streets away.

sunday morning monk will build a fire. i will make a big two person breakfast. pancakes? waffles? eggs and maple sausages and oj and coffee for me and chai for him. that sort of thing. we'll sit in the living room by the tree and drink warm drinks and enjoy the fire and open our presents for each other.
i should get godzilla something.

a friend asked me to be there when she gives birth, if by chance her husband is out of town and the baby comes early. and i cried. i have never ever felt so honored ever.

last night we ate at my favorite new restaurant. Sea Salt. My pan seared grouper with roasted butternut and kabocha squashes, fregola, hazelnut and brown butter.. amazing. very delicious. everybody elses food , also great
and monk got the BLT (bacon lettuce & trout) again.. and it remains one of the best things on the menu.
i actually ordered a second one so i could bring it for lunch today.

tonight is the festive pub crawl...

but right now, i just want a nap . siesta is underrated.
