hawaii

so yes, we are now engaged!
we got to maui on sunday the 29th at 10something am. (thank god for that backwards time change)
we had hours to kill after getting the rental car, so we went to a hot sunny beach for a little bit to take a quick dip then ate burritos in the sun.
from there we went to our hostel-like accomodations for the night. that was day 1 . then we went to bed at 6:30 pm so we could wake up at 3am to go to the sunrise on haleakala and get engaged.
after hiking around in haleakala crater, we went to buy groceries for the week and took off for hana.
the drive was beautiful although i started to feel sickly part way through. very curvy road.
i will write more about hana later, but it consisted of a lot of lazy yet full days .. with passion fruit guava orange mango papaya pineapple smoothies and pineapple champagne to celebrate our new fiance'ness.. .swimming in clear blue pools and lagoons and hiking in jungley wet lushness and bamboo forests and lounging in the coziest yurt ever and showering outdoors in a rocky outdoor shower surrounded by orchids. cooking dinners on the grill over looking the hana bay...fish with mango chutney.... rice pilaf. salads with fresh avocado from hana trees.
sleeping on white sheets with fan on us... the sound of the rain beating on the canvas roof.
life was slow and warm and languid and wet...
and coming back has been very difficult.
and i miss the mangos and the pineapple champagne and the fresh fish and wild chickens and green greenness and beautiful swimming ..
life is lived at a different pace over there. a pace i'd much rather live at.
we were in bed by 8:30 at night (it gets dark at 7:30) and we were up as it got light out. .we were outside all the time and while there were mosquitos, we just didn't give a damn.
we read and cuddled and slept and hiked and swam and i'd like to move there and grow food and maybe run a little b & b. but i'm pretty sure i'm not the first person to daydream this daydream...

we're not getting married for a year... time to plan and it will be getting warm again.

pineapple champagne is surprisingly yummy, by the way.

but those smooothies! that shower! and hans and the habanero! (that story is for later. too long for now. i'm sleepy and i want a hottub)
