in Sense and Sensibility, Marianne (the romantic sister. or kate winslet if you wish to go by the movie) is horrified because Elinor's love interest (edward) is reading aloud to the family and he reads drily and matter of factly. and the book is written by Cowper and she feels he should only be read with great rapture and paroxysms of delight. her romantic nature demands it you see.

anyway. the point is, i looked up Cowper today.

the point to that is not who cowper is

but that i'm now looking up novelists mentioned in austen books. i iwll read those novels and look up novelists mentioned therein. and so on and so forth.
