merry holidays

christmas is over.. and it was groovy. a small family xmas saturday night with monk's family. (after shopping most of the day) lasagna and champagne and presents next to the tree (woo we're going to get a console table at pier one today!)
sunday morning we slept until 10 or 10:30 and then got up.. monk built a fire and i made breakfast (chicken maple sausages, toast, and eggs. scrambled for him . one fried yummy egg for me). we ate breakfast and drank hot caffeinated chai and then we opened presents.
monk got me a gift certificate from here which i've been wanting for awhile. and a dremel! wooo. i have no idea what i'm going to use my dremel for yet, but i've been wanting one for a long time. also a space heater for my craft room so i wont' avoid it during cold days. oh and some cooking stuff. yay for wooden spoons and measuring cups ...
he got a 2 hour (2 hour!!) massage and some books about different beautiful hikes and treks, some trail maps, and a few silly gifts. the plan is defintely to get out backpacking more in our future
it was so absolutely excellent to have our own christmas by ourselves. then at 4 we were back at his fam's for the 'big' xmas dinner. about 26 people, lots and lots and lots of food. a few 2 year olds running around loving christmas and a 3 month old baby that i held for awhile and was full on ready to steal.
bed by midnight and today i slept til 11 and that was pretty much heavenly. i haven't slept in that long in a long time.
monk is sad that we have so many errands and chores today, but i think it's good. we'll feel good about it tonight when the house is clean and we have new snow boots for him and a console table for the house.
tomorrow my step brothers girlfriends sister is staying with us .. sort of out of the blue. we had christmas with her last year and it was fun. i'll bet she'll want to dance dance revolution. wednesday i have to shop shop shop for food for the weekend
then thursday we'll head out to the mountains with a small group of friends
i actually had a weird little anxiety attack last night because there are other friends i feel bad about not being able to invite. it's my instinct, somehow , to invite EVERYONE i care about and then suddenly oops there's 20 people. or more. but while the house is huge, there are limited beds. and the more peopel the more chaotic . and that's what we're not wanting this holiday. but i still feel a little guilty and bummed anyway. i don't know why guilty. it's silly

christmas eve night the cat got shut outside accidentally (or rather he was outside and didn't come back by bedtime, so we gave up) so at 3am i let him in and it was raining. he was soaking wet and miserable, so we let him come in to the bedroom with us .. which is rare.
he cuddled and snoozed and was generally the happiest ball of fur ever. it was a nice way to wake up on christmas for us all, i think.

merry holidays , y'all.
