i love my bed

lordy I am tired.
it's sunday night and I haven't been home since yesterday afternoon, but this was an accident.
Yesterday we got an email from monk's sister asking if we wanted to go flying to mendocino with her. we deliberated because we kind of just wanted to lounge at home. spend time in the back yard...go to REI..grill some dinner, etc.
but..we decided that flying to mendocino on a saturday afternoon was a worthy venture, so we said yes.
The flight was beautiful! clear and sunny and the air wasn't choppy. We flew over the coast and over the mountains and hills and dales. (hills and dales hills and dales)..
When we got to Little River airport, we landed (or rather she landed) the little plane and we called the Little River Inn to tell them we'd like to eat dinner there and could they come get us. (the airport has nobody there after 5. no tower, no cars, no nothin. it's in the middle of nowhere)
So some young man came and got us in a van and we went to the inn. Lucky enough, one of our xmas gifts was a gift certificate for this inn! so we all had a lovely dinner with wine and champagne (well, not monk's sister since she had to fly) and fish and salads and desserts. then we got a ride back out to the air strip.
we got there, oil was checked. fuel was checked. everything was checked.
we took off... into the ever darkening night, and right into a fog bank.
this plane isn't rated for instrument-only flying and there's no departure/landing instruments at that airport to guide you back. so, before we got lost in the fog and couldn't see the landing strip..we turned right around and landed again.
called around to friends with internet. wondering..could we get somebody to drive the 3.5 hours to come get us? could we find a place to stay?
we ended up staying right where we'd had dinner. they made a nice deal on a room for the 3 of us. we all slept horribly and apparently monk and i snored.
and then when we got up it was drizzling and the fog was practically sitting on the ground..so we spent the day at that same inn..playing cards, trying to figure out if there were rental cars (there were none), or limos (they were $450), or kayaks (hm, that's a work out)... drinking some occasional wine.. getting to know the staff
finally, monk and his sister's mom came to get us. not particularly happy about it but she did it. and now... over 24 hours after we left for the flight, we are home and i finally got out of my dirty underwear and ooh la la i look forward to sleep.
i mildly mourn our mellow day at home we were going to have today ...but, in fact, it was a bit of an adventure. so .. i'm ok.
monk's sister still has to wait for good weather and go back to Little River to get that plane though. owch.

oh, friday afternoon my work team and i left early and went to Six Flags and that was damn fun. roller coasters and beers and junk food and i did that bungee liket hing where you lay down and they attach cables to you and pull you up and back (there were 3 of us doing it at once) and then let you go and you drop drop drop oh so fast oh the terror and hten you fly .. fly... i'm flying!
way fun.

anyway, i'm sleepy. it's bed time. i love my bed oh so much.
