b(est)f Crotchety ordered me Porn and Prejudice (ok it turns out it's not titled Porn and Prejudice but Pride and Promiscuity which is no where near as good a title). which is a book with all the sex scenes that scallywag jane austen left out. so basically you hold both books, reading the original and when you get to the part where Porn and Prejudice provides a steamy scene, you switch over, read it and then switch back.

I think the b(est)f is like Darcy in that he doesn't cull his own joy from life, but instead likes to find conduits through whom to experience the joy. he likes women who are smart enough but also laughy and fun filled and vivacious(ish). while he continues to be a little dour and not joy full much at all. I understand this, i think. it's why we never got togehter though. that's a lot of pressure, you know. to feel joy in people and life for yourself *and* somebody else.
