day 3 1/2

day 3 1/2:

i keep losing track of time. waking up convinced it was 9am or later, wondering why my mother is sleeping in so late. realizing it was only 6:30 and i was wide awake.

thinking it's 5pm when it's 2.

today ..up with the birds yet again. laaahdy laahdy laahdy...smoothies and toast.

then we packed snacks in a pack.. sun tan lotion..and walked to O'heo Gulch...about 3 miles away..

i had read about a secret place. Infinity Pool

we hiked up through the same trails we took 2 days ago..of the bamboo forests, etc.

but partway up, we took a little well worn but unmarked trail to the right and ended up at a pool that was at the top of a waterfall. this particular waterfall was a sheer drop of a cliff that was as tall as a sky scraper. so when you sit in this particular pool..or on the edge...and look out, you see straight to the ocean. because the trees and the rest of the river are way below you ..far far below you. and no aslan to blow you on his breath.

it was the most amazing place and my mother said "normally i get bored after awhile when sunning. and i want a book to read" and she sighed in contentment.

and i thought yesterday had the most beautiful places. today proved me wrong.

we ate a coconut we found on the road, and a mango. how many times can i write in here about the fabulous road litter we eat??

anyway, all told it was about an 8 mile walk/hike..and my butt is sore. lots of up hill.

and the guy at the smoothie-stand-in-the-middle-of-nowhere gave us a free smoothie ..about 2 miles left to go til we reached our house..so it was perfect timing.

later, at home...we sat at the little glass table on the green green lawn, on the edge of the steep steep hill looking at the blue blue ocean...and we ate cornish game hens that we'd stuffed with pineapple and rice with coconut milk, basted with some soy sauce salt and pepper...wrapped in banana leaves..and grilled on the grill

yea. you heardme. kalua hen.

oh by the way, the mayor introduced herself to us as Auntie.

when it got dark (by 7:30) , we watched old episodes of sex in the city on dvd and now it's bed time.

i brought fifty million books with me and i am still only 1/4 of the way through one of them.

so yea it's paradise.

EXCEPT. somebody please explain to me why mosquitos do not. ever. touch my mother. but they think i'm succulent.

we share blood, you know. why don't they go to the source. my blood is just a cheap copy of the original! maybe it's the cheese. i do like cheese more than she does. but she likes cookies more than i do.

so sleepy. torrential rainforest rains outside my window. night night.

one of these days maybe i'll have a thought that doesn't have to do with what i did that day.

pah, this is way more interesting.

i know it sounds silly and flighty and like something anyone would say after a week like this. but...

i could live this life.

p.s. on our walk home, somebody drove by with 4 dogs and a big black dead pig in the back of their truck. it was a wild pig they'd killed in the rainforest. . somebody is havin a luau tonight.
