yosemite again

beautiful weather. warm with nice breezes. clear skies.

yosemite is a valley formed by a glacier. surrounded by enormous cliffs, the valley is full of meadows and streams and flowers and coyotes (i saw 3!) and deer (i stood 5 feet from a mama and two fauns) and Bears! (we had to keep our food in Bear Boxes, which are safe from bear claws. even our toiletries. because bears have strong noses and they smell ANYTHING in a car and they'll rip the doors off to get at it)

we stayed in a little mining town called jamestown that still looks like the old west. the first night. we had the top down and were driving on winding roads high in the mountains, looking out at fields of gold. I was DJ and we drove through hot back roads and little towns playing etta james and lyle lovett and gillian welch .. perfect dusty dry weather music.

we ate a posh brunch at the ohwahnee which is a famous grand old hotel in the yosemite valley. (it's one of the oldest grandest hotels in california). we stayed in tent cabins the second night. which have wood floors and wood frame with canvas over them. no heat. not enough blankets. too many people around us talking and yelling. i wish we'd had a tent instead so we could have set up farther from people.

we drove up the back roads to glacier point and were up on top of the highest of cliffs looking down over the valley. i took panoramic pictures but that was after my digicam ran out of batteries, so you have to wait for pics when i get them developed.

we hiked and meandered and lay on our backs in meadows looking up at the ENORMOUSLY High cliffs at the climbers. i can't believe people climb those. i could see their lights at night when they were snug in their hammocks. maybe with little head lights so they could read. it takes a couple days to climb those cliffs. i can't even imagine.

we stopped at all the backroad stops. a saloon with wood chips on the floor and swinging doors. a cheese shop. a pumpkin patch.

it was a good weekend.

away from my whirlwind world that never slows down enough for me .

and my mom makes a great road trip companion.

anyway. i'm tired. that's the run down.

here are the pics i have so far
